Taryn: 6 yrs Old

When I decided to get into photography, I knew I had to find my niche. I didn’t know what type of photography I was best at. I knew it wasn’t landscape photography. I am the type who loves to see people in pictures. It wasn’t until this year that I’ve realized that I really enjoy photographing children. Maybe that comes from having lots of practice with my own children. It comes easier to me to direct them to give me great poses and facial expressions that really show who they are and what kind of child they are. Parents never want to forget their kids unique little personalities. And all of them are so different.

Taryn is full of personality and yet very quiet and demure. During the first half of our photo session, I saw the quiet, demure side. I’ve known her since she was born, yet it still takes time for her to warm up and show me the quirky side. I know her parents will treasure these photographs of the shy and quiet Taryn.

Scott & Billie Jo: Engaged

This is a very special couple to me. They are soon to be wed and entrusted me to do their engagement photos recently. It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had on a shoot. Most of the time I’m serious and working hard to get great pictures. These two made it so easy because their love for each other outshined any awkwardness of a normal photo shoot. They were fun, happy, in love, had great ideas, and trusted my vision. At times, I think they didn’t even realize I was there as they got caught up in the moments of togetherness. Thank you Scott and Billie Jo for being such great subjects…even if your photographer felt like a pervert for snapping pics of you frolicking in the fields

Quess: 12 Years Old

I have got an awesome nephew that my own sons look up to and admire immensely. Its unfortunate that he doesn’t live closer to us and resides in Alabama. It is not often I get the opportunity to take his picture. Last Fall, when he visited us, I was able to get some great pictures to capture this moment in time. I was able to surprise my sister with a beautiful portrait of her little man for Christmas. He turns twelve this month and I want to him to know how much he is missed and how great his cousins think he is! These pictures are for them as well so they can have pictures to remember the good times!

The holidays are such a great time to celebrate togetherness and a time for cherishing those we love the most. This couple shows so much love for their two little girls. I work with the dad and it was neat to watch him interact with his daughters. It was even neater too see how the girls have so many of his characteristics. They were so much fun to chase around and get pictures of. Definitely making me work for shots! I look forward to watching this family grow in the years to come!

I had another opportunity to photograph one of my favorite families! This group looked gorgeous as we did their family Christmas photos near a dock in their neighborhood. It was quite an adventure because a storm was approaching and it poured on us. We raced back to their house and after throwing the wet shirts in the dryer for a few minutes, a quick blow dry of the wet hair, and waiting for a clear patch in the skies, we tried it again and ended up with some great shots!

Good friends make great pictures! I’ve known this family for a very, very long time and was enlisted to do their family portrait for their 2011 holiday card. This was a big task for me because I did not want to disappoint. I was so happy when the mom suggested a more urban setting for their session. I love the background interest that downtown locations provide. She styled her family wonderfully and it all came together!

Mileena: 16 Yrs Old

My niece has turned sixteen. It is simple to say but so hard to comprehend. How did she get to be a young woman so fast? It seemed like just yesterday that I saw her for the first time under a heat lamp, in a box, as a premature infant in the hospital. She was so stinking tiny and fragile.

Now she is old enough to drive.

She is looking for a job.

She is growing up.

I still think of her as being that fragile newborn.

Mileena, you have big things ahead of you and I am proud of the woman you are becoming. You exuded beauty both inside and out when we did your birthday portrait session this year. You will shine in your sixteenth year!

Baby Brantley: 1 Week Old

Life has been in full swing and my photography has kind of taken a back seat these days. I was ready to get back in the photography saddle when this little guy’s momma contacted me about a newborn shoot. What a sweet baby boy! I enjoyed holding him as much as I did taking his picture. He entered this world with siblings the same age as my own and I couldn’t help but think, “wow, what would it be like to be having a third right now?”. Mine have grown so much that I hardly remember them at this stage. Brantley’s momma was thrilled with the pictures I took of her little man and it reminded me of why I love to do photography. I have such an appreciation for memories that you can’t get back again. I hope this pictures will always remind his mother of what a sweet little boy he was right from the beginning!

Gavin: 7 Years Old

Another year has flown by and my oldest son has turned 7 years old. 7 YEARS OLD!!!! I can’t believe I have a 7 year child. That makes ME feel old!!

You can see his 6 year old photo shoot here. I love looking back at past years pictures and seeing the differences. How the baby fat seems to fall off in a year and especially this year how he has lost so many teeth. What a transformation into a hyper, fun loving, moody, and active little boy! I think I did a good job this year at capturing all of those characteristics.
